The Murphy Lumberyard was established in Carmel in 1904. It wasn’t until 1946 that it relocated to the heart of Carmel Valley. It was named after M.J. Murphy who was one of the most active and prolific builders in the area. “Murphy built more than half the houses in Carmel,” stated Handley, his General Manager. Among his most notable structures are the Pine Inn, La Playa Hotel, the Carmel Highlands Inn, and the Carmel Art Association.

Today, the store is operated by Tom Gladney, one of his two grandsons. You can buy everything you would need to build a home and they will deliver anywhere in the Monterey County. The only hardware store located in the heart of Carmel Valley.
